About Us

Our Aim

Te Manu Aute welcomes all parents with 4-5 year old children who are ready to make the transition from home to school. We aim to provide a place for parents, children and their younger siblings to meet on a regular basis. Te Manu Aute provides a range of educational activities to foster children’s learning and development consistent with Te Whariki while preparing them for school (the NZ ECE curriculum).

Child Placements

We can accommodate a maximum of ten children aimed at kids who have had little or no preschool and would benefit from the prior to going into a New Entrant Classroom. Children do not have to go to Hora Hora School, they can go to any school although the Puna and our Junior Classrooms have a very close relationship.

Guidelines

  • On arrival, please sign-in in our book, this is in case of an emergency and also so we know who has visited

  • To be run cooperatively and each parent or caregiver is responsible for the children they bring

  • Your input with the children and the programme is valuable as children learn best when adults take an interest in their play

  • We have hot drink supplies and water available

  • Dress children in practical play clothes (bring spares), provide sun protection and bring some kai and own drink. Please respect our healthy food guidelines of no lollies and fizzy drinks

Participation

We encourage parents to familiarise yourselves with how/why the playgroup operates: i.e talk with other parents about how Te Manu Aute works; check out the emergency evacuation procedures; locate the first aid kit; take notice of any hazards letting the coordinator know; read notices; fill in the roll book, contribute to Te Mana Aute’s functioning by helping to set up, tidy up etc and most importantly supporting children’s participation by helping create a great environment for them.

Positive Behaviour Management Techniques are Encouraged

  • Praise good behaviour (‘I like the way you helped’,’that’s great –taking turns’)

  • Supervise children and be ready to step in before problems arise (keep an eye out)

  • Help children to resolve conflict (what would be a better way?)

  • Redirect to a more acceptable activity if necessary

  • Help children to express their feelings verbally

  • Let your child know what you expect of them (share toys, play nicely)

  • Please: no smacking, put downs, pushing, yelling

Health and Safety

If your child has health issues i.e allergies, asthma etc… please let us know. Hora Hora Primary School is a smoke free, alcohol free and drug free zone. All practicable steps are taken to prevent exposure to inappropriate material i.e of explicitly sexual or violent nature.
